W. Clinton Rasberry Jr. Auditorium

The 500 seat AUDITORIUM IN THE ROUND combines the latest high definition and 360 degree projection technology facilitating modern teaching techniques for advanced lectures, virtual demonstrations, and video-conferencing. Additionally, a new $2.5M gift from W. Clinton “Bubba” Rasberry, Jr.  will establish the Rasberry Family Endowed Lecture Series, which will be hosted in the building auditorium. 

Two 250 Seat Instructional Classrooms
These modern learning spaces allow for the facilitation of instruction to large groups of students through lecture and group learning. Outfitted with the latest technology enabling our instructors to utilize multiple screens with advanced display and smart devices.

Active Learning Classrooms
These classrooms are designed for collaborative learning which is at the forefront of the updated delivery model of medical education, promoting learner-to-learner interaction. This modern and proven approach to medical education enhances development of critical thinking, problem solving and scientific knowledge, all of which are essential building blocks in the successful practice of medicine.

Standardized Patient Lab
The Standardized Patient Lab consists of 15 patient exam rooms, a control center with monitoring stations, as well as a classroom for debriefing.  Each exam room is equipped with cameras and a microphone for real-time viewing from the control center as well as recording into our data management system, creating a safe and controlled environment for learning, practicing and refining essential clinical and interpersonal skills to develop the competency and confidence needed to provide high-quality interdisciplinary care to actual patients. Learn more about our Standardized Patient Lab.

Simulation Rooms
The Simulation Lab consists of 7 full-service simulation rooms including a simulation hospital ward, emergency response / cardiology, adult, pediatric, neonatal, obstetric rooms as well as an ultrasound suite. Each room has integrated high tech and audio-visual systems and medical mannequins designed to replicate real-world scenarios. Procedural Skills
The Fred L. Phillips Procedural Skills Lab has flexible spaces designed for small group hands-on learning of the necessary procedural skills needed by our medical students.

Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery & Laproscopic Surgery Training
The Technical Skills Lab is comprised of a Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) and Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) training rooms and an advanced skills classroom.  The classroom functions as a small group learning space utilizing virtual-reality, robotic, endoscopic and direct fundoscopic simulators. FES and FLS training programs are approved by the Society of Gastrointestinal an Endoscopic Surgeons as FES and FLS Testing Centers, the only one in northern Louisiana and one of two in the state. Learn more about our Technical Skills Lab.

Bakowski Center for Culinary Medicine (BCCM)
The 911 sq. ft. BCCM features a state-of-the-art industrial kitchen including cameras over the cooking area to project viewing on multiple screens around the classroom space that will accommodate up to 50 individuals. The Bakowski Kitchen for Culinary Medicine will be utilized for a range of educational purposes to include the Lifestyle Medicine Program. The goal of the Lifestyle Medicine elective is to educate and provide culinary and lifestyle medicine programs for students and staff to enhance the fund of knowledge in the role proper nutrition, exercise, and stress management provides in increasing overall well-being. This School of Medicine initiative will educate and equip future physicians with the tools, knowledge, and hands-on experience necessary to prevent and address nutrition-related health conditions.

Throughout the building are spaces for students to connect, study quietly and gather in small groups. These hubs are intentionally set to enhance the student's learning experience.

Over 25,000 square feet are devoted to a fitness center and wellness space, plus an enhanced dining area.   

Basketball Court, Weight Lifting, Circuit Training, Cardio Zone
Two dedicated areas for free weights and an advanced lifting station; Large area for circuit training; a studio room with wood floor ideal for yoga, dance, spin classes (13 spin bikes), etc.; 31 units of cardio workout equipment including treadmills, upright and seated ellipticals, upright and recumbent bicycles, step climbers, and adaptive motion trainers; Male and female locker rooms equipped with showers, dressing area and daily use lockers.

Meditation Rooms, Lobby & Outdoor Patio
Tucked away on the 2nd floor in the northwest corner isolated from the general hub of the building is space for enhancing the mental and physical health of LSUHS students, faculty, and staff.  The lobby  is a welcoming, safe, inclusive environment for students to relax and unwind. Direct access to the outside balcony area, with sitting ensembles for small groups, further facilitates wellness. The meditation rooms allow for individual and small group meditation promoting appreciation and respect for religious and spiritual practices. The rooms feature comfortable seating, a calming environment, and the use of virtual reality (VR) headsets for guided meditation.
