Medical Student of the Month
Our student of the month is Allison Grace Trawick, MS4!
While on her pediatrics rotation, Allison Grace had a patient come in for asthma complications. The patient admitted that he didn’t use his daily inhaler because he was embarrassed that he had to use it. Because of this, he was unable to play soccer with his friends since he’d become short of breath easily. Allison Grace shared with him her own struggles with childhood asthma, and said that by using her daily inhaler, she was able to participate in multiple sports like any other kid. She emphasized that his diagnosis shouldn't hold him back from being a normal kid, and she encouraged him to use his inhaler every day, explaining how frequent use would help open up his lungs so he would be able to keep up with his friends. Because of this conversation, the patient was more eager to use his inhaler, as he now understood that using it would give him the ability to play with his soccer team!
