First year medical students welcomed their family and friends to campus to learn a little bit about their daily life at LSU Health Shreveport's School of Medicine.

Families were able to tour the new Center for Medical Education, visit the Assembly Rooms,
learn about ongoing wellness initiatives, and see the Fitness Zone. They checked out the simulation labs, standardized patient clinic and even got a look into the anatomy lab. 

Medical student, Morgan Brown shared, "It was nice to show my parents the building that we’re in, because I always describe it. But it's hard for them to understand when they see it for themselves. But, yeah, it was really special."

Jack Anzalone shared, "My father graduated from LSU Health Shreveport probably about 20 to 30 years ago. Somewhere in that range. And, you know, seeing the new facilities and the classrooms and stuff is kind of mind blowing for him. And, I think he really enjoyed that. So it was a cool experience."
 

Family Day is probably one of the most exciting times for both our students and their families. It's an opportunity for the families to also see not only the leadership of the School of Medicine, but also to see the various aspects of the curriculum. The families were able to basically go through all of our clinical skills center, our simulation center. They had the opportunity to interact with our library services, with the University police department, which is really important to ensure the safety of their children, as well as our student counseling center. Dr. Mark Cogburn was really instrumental in allowing them the opportunity to ask questions related to the well-being and all the services that we have here on campus. It was very exciting for the family members to see how their children spend the day here as well as their evenings.

"It's wonderful to get to see where he comes and studies every day and gets to relax. And seeing the new facility - it's incredible. It really is. When we-I went to med school, it didn't look anything like this here. This is truly fantastic," shared Larry Parker, medical student parent.
