Wilton Barlow, MSII, research under the mentorship of Dr. John Vanchiere titled “Antibiotic resistance mechanisms in Group B Streptococci” won 2nd place for the 2023 Nathan Solomon and Irene Oransky-Solomon Medical Student Award at the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation Annual Meeting in February 2023.

3rd place Modi Morni for “Diallyl Trisulfide (DATs), a H2S releasing compound, may increase radio-sensitivity in glioblastoma multiforme cells” under the guidance of Dr. Lynn Harrison.
Clinical Science:
1st place Kaitlyn Tholen for “Evaluating the efficacy and value of drilling 3D- printed temporal bone models” under the guidance of Dr. Gauri Mankekar,
2nd place Miranda Duhon for “The role of H. Pylori in the development of Reinke's Edema” under the guidance of Dr. Karuna Dewan,
3rd place Joshua Rosby for “Age vs. colony forming units in BMAC samples” under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Massey.
Jay Manuel, MSII, won 2nd place at the Biomedical Research and Industry Day in October 2022 for his research on "Evaluation on Bone Surrogates of the Influence of Epiphysial Rim Contact on Construct Stiffness in Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion" under the guidance of Dr. Giovanni Solitro.
Ross Dies, MSIII, won 1st place at the Biomedical Research and Industry Day in October 2022 for his research on “Determination of Alif Cage Stability” under the guidance of Dr. Giovanni Solitro.
Medical Students: Rachel Barlow, Ashley Barras, Carol Crochet, Kyah Dowell, Robert Klazynski, Rachel Parks, Wybra Price III, and Colton Toups won the First Place Elizabeth K. Eaton Research Award from the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA) and the South Central Academic Libraries Consortium for their research “Using a Virtual Escape room to Assess Epidemiological and Biostatistical Concepts before STEP 1 under the guidance of Julia Esparza (LSUHS Librarian) at the SCC/MLA annual meeting in September 2022.
