MEDICAL STUDENT RESEARCH PROGRAM
In our School of Medicine Medical Student Research Program, sponsored by the Dean's Office, each summer medical students work with a faculty mentor on a research project that is then showcased during the fall at our annual poster presentation fair. In addition to being able to share their work, there is also an opportunity to receive an award in each prize category.
The program is usually completed in one summer over a period of 10-12 hours/week for five weeks and includes a stipend. This program fosters research activity, inspires students to learn more about the research process and generates quality research evidence.

It's important for medical students to do research so that they understand how the developments in their field occur. Because whether it's a new surgery, whether it's a new therapy, whether it's a new treatment, it all comes from the research.
