The medical curriculum embodies key pillars to support and advance the school’s mission, emphasizes the fundamentals of primary care, and provides sound interdisciplinary education that integrates knowledge of the basic and clinical sciences across the curricular phases.

Through coursework, labs, simulation-based activities, and extensive clinical rotations, students acquire hands-on experience in diagnosing and treating patients across various medical specialties.

SIMULATION-BASED MEDICAL EDUCATION

Simulation-based medical education is weaved throughout the curricular phases and supported by the Clinical Skills Center housed in the Center for Medical Education. The Clinical Skill Center is accredited as a Comprehensive Education Institute by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Accreditation of Education Institutes (AEI). The simulation-based training is supported by

  • full-service simulation rooms,
  • procedural and technical skills labs, and
  • patient exam rooms.

All simulation rooms provide integrated comprehensive high-tech audio-visual systems and medical mannequins designed to facilitate interdisciplinary training with real-world scenarios to replicate specific environments where learners will eventually work. The full-service simulation rooms include a simulation hospital ward, emergency response/cardiopulmonary, adult, pediatric, neonatal, and obstetrical simulation rooms, as well as an ultrasound suite. The scope of the simulation-based clinical settings provided by the center is invaluable for experiential learning and comprehensive skill development for our learners across the medical education curriculum. There are also dedicated debriefing stations where learners can review their performance and receive feedback post the simulation-based educational scenarios.

Collectively, the Clinical Skills Center offerings provide learners with a safe and controlled environment for learning, practicing, and refining essential clinical and interpersonal skills to develop the competency and confidence needed to provide high-quality interdisciplinary care to real patients.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

The medical program also incorporates opportunities for research, community engagement, and interprofessional collaboration to further enhance students' clinical acumen and professional growth. The medical program fosters and promotes the well-being of our learners, and the Center for Medical Education and Wellness includes dedicated space for health, wellness, and relaxation.
